Person of interest in custody in unprovoked stabbing death in Brooklyn – News21USA

New York, US News Today (News21USA) : A person identified as Brian Dowling is currently in custody in connection with the tragic and unprovoked stabbing death of Brooklyn activist Ryan Carson in New York. Law enforcement sources have provided this information to ABC News, though formal charges have not been filed as of now.

The victim, Ryan Carson, aged 31, lost his life after sustaining multiple chest stab wounds during a seemingly random attack that occurred early Monday in Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood. The incident took place as Carson and his girlfriend were returning home following a wedding ceremony.

According to the police account, the suspect walked past the couple as they were seated on a bench at a bus stop. Subsequently, while the couple was approaching the suspect, he began vandalizing scooters and confronted Carson with the question, “What are you looking at?” NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny relayed this information during a news conference on Wednesday.

Carson attempted to de-escalate the situation, but the suspect brandished a knife. Carson stepped back and, in the process, stumbled and fell to the ground. The assailant proceeded to stab Carson three times, with one of the stab wounds piercing his heart, as detailed by Kenny.

Before the attack, the suspect displayed signs of agitation while conversing with a woman believed to be his girlfriend, according to Kenny. Following the stabbing, the woman issued an apology to the couple and mentioned the name “Brian.”

The 18-year-old individual involved in the stabbing was reportedly enrolled in an apprenticeship program at a school in Brooklyn’s Clinton Hill neighborhood. Additionally, he had previously received citations for disorderly conduct in 2022.

A day after the stabbing incident, the NYPD released a photograph of a man sought in connection with the case. Law enforcement authorities have been actively working to establish probable cause for an arrest, as explained by Kenny during the Wednesday press briefing.

Ryan Carson had a significant history as a campaign organizer for the New York Public Interest Research Group, a nonpartisan political organization focusing on waste policy. He was also the creator of the No OD NY campaign, which aimed to raise awareness about overdose prevention centers.

New York Mayor Eric Adams has described Carson’s murder as “unthinkable” and has pledged that the NYPD “will not rest until we bring him to justice.”
